Presidential
Office Building |

Having
been the center of political powers
in Taiwan, the building is a red-bricked
and Renaissance-style architecture
built between 1906~1907. It used to
be the Governor's Office during Japanese
colonial time and later became the
Presidential Office when the mainland
Nationalist government relocated to
Taiwan. Every year at New Year holiday
and National Day, the Building is
decorated with beautiful tablets and
brilliant light bulbs. During daytime
the presidential office is periodically
open for group visit with prior reservation.

Chang
Kai-shek Memorial Hall |

Located
in the center of Taipei, the CKS Memorial
Hall occupies a total area of 250,000
square meters. The main building is
easily recognized by its octagonal
shape, blue tiled roof and snow white
walls, surrounded by spacious grassland.
It is not only a memorial hall built
for the former president but also
a national cultural center, with galleries
and auditorium rooms. Besides,the
National Theater and the National
Concert Hall nearby also stage large-scale
performing arts all year round. |
Bauan
Temple in Dalongdong |

Bauan
Temple in Dalongdong, Longshan Temple
in Wanhua and Chinshauiyen Temple
are the three largest ones in Taipei.
Bauan Temple was built by people
from Tongan of Fujien in Qing Dynasty
and dedicated to the deity of Bausheng,
meaning life-saving god.
The main building of Bauan Temple
is divided into the front, main
and rear palaces. These palaces
feature intricate swallow-tail eaves
and exquisite stone carvings to
claim masterpieces of art.
The
temple hosts the largest birthday
celebration of the Baosheng deity
on lunar Mar. 15th. The festival
lasts for more than one month. Tourists
are able to see a lot of cultural
events such as traditional Taiwanese
opera shows, folk-art skits, firecrackers
and other exciting traditional temple
activities. |
National
Palace Museum |

Located
at the outskirts of Taipei, the
National Palace Museum without doubt
is the first step for any foreign
visitor intending to explore the
splendid Chinese culture. The Museum
collects more than 650,000 pieces
of precious Chinese art works and
relics. Its abundant collections
are divided into calligraphies,
paintings, documentaries, imperial
files from Qing Dynasty, bronzes,
jades, potteries and porcelains,
silk tapestries and other precious
objects, covering a time span of
7000 years in Chinese history. It
is the most comprehensive museum
of Chinese culture in the world.

The
Martyrs Shrine |

Located
right next to Grand Palace Hotel,
the Martyrs Shrine was built in
its grand and magnificent architectural
style as similar as the Taihe Dian
Imperial Palace in Beijing and consecrate
330,000 sacrificed officers and
soldiers during Sino-Japanese War
and Kuomintang and Communist Parties
war. Each spring and autumn the
president of Taiwan holds memorial
ritual and leads government's officials
in a public worship. |
