Designed by PGA Tour professional Luke Donald and managed by IMG, Ba Na Hills Golf Club is a world-class golfing facility located at the foothills of the Ba Na Hills on Vietnam’s famous Central Coast. The front 9 is more of a traditional parkland style, while the back 9 winds its way through the twist and turns of the native hillside terrain. The course caught the world’s attention at the 2016 World Golf Awards when it won the title of ‘World’s Best New Golf Course’.

Reminiscent of both Scottish links golf and Australian sand-belt courses, Greg Norman has created something special in the multi-award winning BRG Danang Golf Resort. Tagged as one of the 15 best new courses in the world by USA GOLF magazine, Danang’s Dunes Course sees generous but firm fast fairways that bleed gently into wild seaside vegetation. There is restrained use of water and OB, however placement is paramount if approach shots are to have a chance at the pins on the well bunkered and undulating greens. The fairways are also lined and well defined by long needle pines; miss into the trees and you will be forced to punch off the sand and pine needles just to get back into play.
Wind can also tighten up the course considerably, so look to be creative with bump-and-runs and putting from well off the greens. BRG Danang Golf Resort’s signature hole is the 148-yard, par-3 16th, which plays to a slightly elevated green framed by two of the course’s deepest bunkers and against the back-drop of the South China Sea.

Hoiana Shores Golf Club is Robert Trent Jones Jr.’s first masterpiece in Vietnam, located 55 mins from Danang International Airport. Set against the backdrop of spectacular coastline and pristine natural terrain, this 18-hole championship golf course is a modern links design with limited vegetation and rolling dunes, featuring holes along the stunning beachfront, offering majestic ocean views of the Eastern Sea and Cham Islands. Course building techniques preserved the existing dune and sand pine terrain making holes play through the Casuarina trees and brush native to the area. Six of the 18 holes come into direct contact with the beach. The signature hole is the 16th which comes right up to the seashore and plays through the coastal dunes.
The luxurious 6,000 square meter clubhouse is complete with a restaurant, bar and café as well as a function room, private dining room and a Terrace lounge for guest use. Opened in 2019, Hoiana Shores Golf Club has been awarded the title of “World’s Best New Golf Course 2020” in the World Golf Awards and is the only golf course in Vietnam being named in the “World Top 100 Golf Course” by Golf World Magazine.

Besides ocean views and an amphitheater-like mountainous backdrop, the Laguna Golf Lang Co golf course has the golfer weaving in between trees, over rice paddy fields and streams, through impressive rock features and alongside the beach. Sir Nick Faldo said of his design, “You want a different feel, requiring different shots.” Each hole on the course reveals a character of its own, presenting a myriad of opportunities for interesting and memorable play. The par-3, 5th stands out as the signature hole. Incorporating large mounds around the green that mirror a mountain peak in the background, it is the only hole with any obvious man-made influence. Honourable mention must also go to the par-5 finishing hole, an excellent dog-leg that is sure to thrill. Even so, the Laguna Golf Lang Co golf course can be enjoyed by the most experienced players and beginners alike with its variety of tees ranging from challenging to friendly.

Moving boldly over a striking landscape of wispy casuarinas, pines and sand dunes, the Montgomerie Links Vietnam is as close to golfing in Ireland or Scotland minus its cold temperatures. Best described as contemporary modern links, sand is everywhere on this course, and it’s evident that Colin ‘Monty’ Montgomerie drew upon childhood memories of famous Scottish links to create a layout featuring abundant sand, prevalent bunkering and an ever-present wind. Monty has implemented classic, old world design elements into this Danang golf course, such as rolling, treeless fairways, thick rough, massive greens and tight chipping areas, with the only departure from tradition coming in the form of several lakes and streams.
Although the course doesn’t officially have a signature hole, the stunning par-5 12th is truly memorable. Playing slightly uphill to a bunker-riddled fairway, the hole is framed by the clubhouse in the background and has been described as the best par-5 in Vietnam. Thoroughly enjoyable by players of all abilities, Montgomerie Links has been rated as one of Asia’s ten most elite courses by the 2012 Forbes Travel Guide.

Opened in April 2018, Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An is a world standard 18-hole Par 72 championship golf course designed by IMG. The golf club is part of a 200-hectare resort development that includes a 5-star beachside hotel, tropical villas, water park and theme park. The links-style golf course is designed in combination with natural terrain characterized by fine white sand dunes, wide fairways and smooth winding green areas. Many natural trees on site such as casuarina pine trees and deciduous trees provide a nice contrast across the golf course. The diverse golf holes with a pleasant mix of long and short Par 3’s, Par 4’s and Par 5’s, including two drivable Par 4 holes, bring many challenges to players of all levels.
