BRG Kings Island Golf Resort on the outskirts of Hanoi is arguably the most scenic course in North Vietnam. Getting to the course is by the uniquely Vietnamese way of boat, as the Lakeside Course spans two islands and a peninsula lying in a reservoir. Views are spectacular, with the majestic mountain range as a stunning backdrop to the man-made lake, while the Red River Valley stretches into the distance. It’s no surprise that water, in numerously varied ways, is a central feature on 13 of the 18 holes around the gently sloping terrain of the Lakeside Course. Many of the hidden greens require accurate carries over the lake or swampy terrain; as with the par 5, 13th hole, where the tee shot has to clear a gorge. The 7th hole, another par 5, will most certainly intrigue with its double dogleg from an elevated tee. The Mountain View course design takes maximum advantage of the ambience of the waterside setting, distant mountains and surrounding trees.
Guarded by a front bunker, the signature par 3, 8th hole is a carry over water to a green that cants diagonally back to front, providing for many challenging hole locations. Another hole of interest is the 12th, a dogleg right par 4 with bunkers grouped at the bend to prevent all but long hitters from cutting the corner. Big hitters hoping for a short iron in, have to nail one straight over the bend to avoid being caught by a fairway bunker on the left. The 54 holes layout at King’s Island challenges and excites all levels of players. The Kings Course is the newest golf course opened in 2018, designed by Jack Nicklaus II. The front nine makes its way through the natural woodland with numerous challenging holes, while the back nine offers a superb challenge surrounded by beautiful large lakes. Wide fairways with intricate bunker complexes characterize each hole. This course is concluded with a special par-3 19th hole that plays from a tee above a rock waterfall to an island green.

Located up north, Hanoi Golf Club is the only Japanese managed golf course in all of Vietnam. Open for play in November 2006, it is 18 holes that have been strategically designed with trademark Japanese attention to detail over a vast 108 hectares of gentle, sloping terrain. The founding goal was to build a world-class championship golf course on the hillsides of North Hanoi, and at a lengthy 7,301 yards, what Hanoi Golf Club has today is a solid mature course beautiful to behold and a challenge to play. With 54 holes, Phoenix Golf Resort is the largest golf facility in Vietnam and second largest in Asia after Mission Hills China. From the clubhouse, the view is spectacular as the limestone outcroppings which frame and come into play on many of the holes resemble those seen in famous Halong Bay. With American, Korean and Japanese design input, its three courses makes use of severe fairway and green undulations as well as clever routing through and around the unique-looking limestone cliffs. Perhaps the most visually appealing of the three, and the longest at 7,486 yards, is the open links-styled Champion Course.
The Phoenix Course is the original and more mountainous layout by Ron Fream which gets the most play and is a good test of skill for any level of golfer. While the spectacular Japanese designed Dragon Course has wider and friendlier fairways that will appeal to the higher handicapper or those gunning for a career round. A well thought out design that flows seamlessly, some holes are tricky and calls for accurate approaches into the greens.
The front-nine may well leave you speechless in its dramatic splendor and intensity. The inward-nine also contains many beautifully crafted, testing and immaculately presented holes like the long par-4 18th with a deep watery ravine protecting the front left of the green, as tough a closing hole as they come.

Located high in the mountains, Tam Dao Golf Course enjoys a cooler climate and the modern resort style golf course plays through a series of lakes and streams, making it one of the most scenic Hanoi golf courses. The course, with its immaculate fairways and generous undulating sized greens, beautifully winds itself through the natural terrain of the National Park lowlands. The key to scoring well at Tam Dao Golf Course are the approach shots, many of which are to elevated and well-guarded greens.
The best hole on the course starts off the round; the par 5, 1st is unique in that it requires either a layup short of a water hazard some 200 yards from the green, or for long hitters to go for the green in two. However, there is a large tree fronting the left of the green to catch out shots that don’t manage to clear its top branches. Equally challenging is the 11th hole, a short par 4 playing to an elevated island green with a closely mown fringe flanked by water on all sides.
Anything but accuracy on the approach finds a watery grave. Other memorable holes include the dog leg par 5, 10th and the beautiful uphill par 3, 2nd hole. Once again, both require good approaches to avoid tricky lies and hazards around the greens. With double cut fairways, white sand bunkers, and close cut greens and fringes, Tam Dao Golf Course is a real treat to play.

Van Tri Golf Club was the first private golf property in Vietnam and has been in operation since 2007. Laid out on relatively flat terrain, the golf course presents a challenging variety of well-maintained, predominantly pine-lined holes. A mix of greens, fairway, bunkers combined with several water hazards offers the real challenge to the 18-hole championship course. The unique characteristics of each hole require golfers to carefully calculate each stroke in order to have the most appropriate approach. Designed by the famous architect Peter Rousseau, this remarkable golf course has received many notable awards, such as “Vietnam’s Best Design Golf Course”, “Vietnam’s Most Eco-friendly Golf Course”, “Vietnam’s Best Par 4 Course (Hole #8)”. Van Tri Golf Club has also won the title of “Best Maintained Course” in 2015.
