The course curves through rivers, wild rainforest and wetlands. Much of it was thoroughly established from mangrove swamps. As you play the challenging course, you’ll catch glimpses of the pristine Pantai Dalit Beach. Dalit Bay is filled with risks and rewards to satisfy all golfers. For most holes, water comes into play and challenges even professional golfers who opt for the black tees. However, the wide and generous fairways make Dalit Bay suitable for those who are learning to pick up the game. Playing in Indian casino sites is common in the country. So gamblers ought to remember a few crucial moments such as safety and money management. The Damai Golf and Country Club in Sarawak opened in 1996 and features the first Arnold Palmer designed golf course in Malaysia. The golf course borders the foothills of Mount Santubong and plays along the beaches, rocky outcrops and mangrove forests on a peninsula protruding into the South China Sea. Damai Golf and Country Club has hosted major golf events such as the Damai Challenge, World Golf Amateur Challenge and Carlsberg Golf Classic.

Damai consists of the Mountain Nine and the Ocean Nine which are uniquely different in character. The front Mountain Nine offers challenging golf in a rocky, natural rainforest setting. It follows the reliefs of mountain foothills. The back Ocean Nine hugs the South China Sea and features picturesque fairways and lovely beaches. Greens are usually small and favor precise approach shots.

Damai Golf & Country Club, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

The best holes include the 3rd, a short 147 yard par-3 that plays to an elevated green. Two deep bunkers in front, right & left of the green and a stream running on the right wait for wayward shots. The signature 17th is a 168 yard par-3. It plays somewhat downhill with the South China Sea covering three sides of the green. The club selection is critical as the prevailing winds come into play daily. The closing par-5 is a magnificent dogleg to the right. The entire left side is guarded by the ocean and the entire right by trees. Moreover, tight landing areas make precise shot-making a must to have a chance for par. With mountains in the background and beaches and ocean on the sides, this hole was once chosen the second most picturesque hole in Malaysia.

The Damai Golf and Country Club offers facilities such as a grass driving range, practice areas, golfer’s cafe, pro shop, and locker rooms. The clubhouse is more than adequate for most golfers’ needs.

Kelab Golf Sarawak (Sarawak Golf Club) is the closest golf course to the center of Kuching City and is the only 36-hole golf course in Sarawak.

The course consists of the south facing Matang/Santubong 18 and Siol/Demak 18 in the northern direction. There are a total of two 18-hole golf courses on a flat terrain, fully utilizing the water hazards giving you a scenic view. The Matang Nine and the Santubong Nine make up one 18-hole course called “Old Course” while the Siol Nine and the Demak Nine make up the other 18-hole course aka “New Course” that opened in 1989.

The Matang/Santubong course is named after Sarawak’s well-known geographical landmarks, the two famous mountain ranges – Santubong and Matang. The mountains are distinctively visible 25 kilometers from the golf course. The 6,394 meter par-72 championship course is intended to test a player’s ball-striking precision and course management skills. On top of that, the course comes with a combination of undulating Paspalum grassed fairways and well placed hazards to provide a great challenge to both high handicappers and scratch players alike.

Kelab Golf Sarawak, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

The most memorable hole is the par-3 3rd over water. A distinctive lake guards the front side of the green along with the front and back bunkers protecting the narrow green. A well placed and accurate tee shot is required to achieve a par for this hole. The 4th is a 435 yard par-4 and dogleg to the right. Water comes into play on the right and OB on the left. The second shot is over water and another lake is well placed on the left of the green. Bunkers protecting both sides of the green come into play, too.

On top of the splendid course, KGS is equipped with lighted driving range and clubhouse catering to every golfer needs. The clubhouse with its highly unusual architecture bears a resemblance of an outstanding pyramid from the ancient land of the Pharaoh. The F&B outlets provide a wide range of Chinese, Western, Japanese, and Thai cuisines. While enjoying the food at the Pavilion and the Golfer’s Terrace, one could have a breathtaking view of the finishing holes at Matang and Santubong nines.

Kinabalu Golf Club, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

Numerous golfers find this 18-hole course both physically and mentally challenging with its always present winds, steep slopes and surrounding mists. With the frequent thick fogs, some may even say that you are playing golf in the clouds. A huge rock sits in the middle of the fairway of the Par-4 370m Hole#10. You can attempt to carry over or bail out to a slope on OB. One of its noteworthy holes is the 14th, par 3, 142 meters, which features a gushing river at the bottom of a deep ravine. It is an accurate test of skill once you get there; you will need an accurate and well-placed shot from the elevated tee across the Mesilau East River to land on the green perched on the edge of a cliff.

10. Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

About a half-hour’s drive from Kota Kinabalu City is the Nexus Resort Karambunai Golf Club and the golf course is located within walking distance from the large beachside golf resort.

Set against the backdrop of a 130-million year old tropical Borneo rainforest along its eastern edges and the South China Sea to the west, the par 72, 18-hole international standard golf course was designed by American golf architect Ronald Fream. The Nexus Golf Resort has won numerous awards, including the reader voted award for ‘Best Golf Resort’ and ‘Best Golf Course in East Malaysia’ in the 2007/2008 Golf Magazine Poll. Nexus Golf Resort also played host for the 105th Malaysian Amateur Open Golf Championship in 2007.

Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

The Sabah golf course at Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai is bounded by nature and stretches from the low hills, gradually descending towards the beaches. Undulating across a series of small lakes, waterways and hillocks, amidst a panoramic expanse of natural and landscaped surroundings, the Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai captivates golfers with magnificent views of Karambunai Beach, the South China Sea and Mount Kinabalu.  Nexus Golf Resort Karambunai is playable by golf players across different levels yet challenging and provides players with options to suit any level of game. Five unique teeing locations (red, white, blue, black and gold) are provided on each hole to accommodate all golfers.

Though this golf course in Sabah has been created to focus on giving a range of playing experiences, it still demands strategy to score well. The layout starts from the jungle foothills, then play along the beach. The undulating fairways cross a series of small lakes, waterways and hillocks. Golfers require both strength and strategy to navigate the numerous dogleg holes, meandering streams, sand bunkers, and at times strong ocean trade winds. The fairways stretch invitingly and are quite flat. However, bunkers are used cautiously along with strategic contours and mounds to create well protected greens. Water hazards and the roughs punish most errant shots.

Sabah Golf & Country Club, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

For most of the holes in Sabah Golf and Country Club, a long and straight shot is not enough. Each shot has to be a well-placed shot to avoid water hazards and bunkers. One of the noteworthy hole, the monster hole, hole-14 requires and accurate shot when trying to land on the green. The green is protected by water in front and on the right. If you are nervous, you should place your shot on the left and trade the water for sand.

Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia

The golf course plays between the shores of the South China Sea and overlooks some offshore islands. The Sabah golf course consist of the Lake Course, Heritage Course and Garden Course and combines nature with challenging fairways and greens, as well as strategically positioned bunkers. The starting 9 from the club house, the Lake Course was named due to the abundance of water hazards and man-made lakes nestled between undulating greens and landscape vistas. Given a superb view of the Kota Kinabalu city backdrop from the horizon across the fairway, the Heritage Course is serene and quiet course to relax and play a game of golf. On the other hand, the Garden Course presents a spectacular area richly landscaped with shady trees and sand bunkers with ocean and island views in the horizon. The Bermuda grass course is professionally and carefully maintained. The numerous waterways across the course pose a challenge for amateurs and even professional golfers.

The Sutera Harbour signature hole is the 24th; a 330 meters par-4 on the Garden Course with the challenge provided by the sandy waste areas and the ocean which comes dangerously close to the undulating green. Two highly precise shots are required to avoid a watery ending. The par-3 184 meter 6th hole on the Heritage Course is another beauty, requiring a solid tee shot over water to a heavily-bunkered green.
