Located at more than 300 metres above sea level, Club Golf d’Aro is built high on a hilltop above the resort of Platja d’Aro at the southern end of the Costa Brava. Designed by the architect Ramon Espinosa, this 18-hole par 72 championship course offers spectacular panoramic views over the Mediterranean and the mountains of the protected natural area of the Gavarres massif. The fairways are lined with more than a thousand olive trees, pines and cork oaks. Water comes into play via two large artificial lakes. The front nine holes feature slightly hilly terrain, while the back nine is played on uneven ground which adds a higher degree of technicality to the game. The water hazards and strategically placed bunkers make it a challenging and interesting course, giving you the opportunity to use every club in your bag. Situated in the heart of the Costa Brava, the Empordà Golf Club is regarded among Spain’s top golf venues and has undergone a major upgrade in 2020. The golf club offers a total of 36 holes, the Links Course and the Forest Course. Both layouts designed by world-acclaimed architect Robert von Hagge, the two courses are distinctively different in style. The Empordà Links runs between dunes, large lakes and strategically placed bunkers throughout the course. The rough is harsh, the bunkers many and the green small, fast and subtly contoured. Measuring at 6,746 yards, this course demands powerful striking as well as imagination. The Empordà Forest winds through a traditional Mediterranean pine forest that protects players on days when the wind is up. The invariable presence of lakes and the layout of the fairways, lined with tall native pines, are notable aspects of its design. There are several well-placed bunkers scattered across the green and water hazards do come into play in some of the holes. Both courses are rated highly in the Top 100 Courses in Spain.
